Bird & Bird is to open in Hamburg, the expansionist firm’s fourth office in Germany.
The firm has hired a team of six lawyers specialising in real estate, corporate and restructuring after acquiring Hamburg boutique Recore Business Lawyers.
“Our new office in Hamburg strengthens our coverage in the northern European region, establishing a strong link between our offices in the rest of Germany and Stockholm and Helsinki,” said Bird & Bird chief executive David Kerr. “Hamburg is a key commercial centre and jurisdictional location for several of our key sectors and we look forward to assisting new and existing clients from this office.”
The new additions include two partners - Recore co-founders Frank Moerchen and Thomas Demmel - along with three senior European consultants, Oliver Köster, Kurt Luka and Ole Brühl. Gertrun Romeis joins the firm as an associate.
“It will be particularly exciting for us to be able to draw upon such a large internal network within Bird & Bird,” said restructuring specialist Moerchen. “We want to use our know-how to considerably expand both the corporate practice group at Bird & Bird and the existing client base.”
