  • With a 17 per cent decline in lawyer headcount between 2008-09 and 2009-10 it's clear that loyalty is something of a one-way street at Travers Smith.
The whole 'we don't care about money' tone is more than a little offensive to those who lost their jobs purely to keep profit margins very high.

  • @Anon | 5-Apr-2011 2:37 pm - It's likely to have been more like 20%, as in virtually all City firms considerably more trainees qualify each year than associates retire, and it is unlikely that there were zero lateral hires.
Either way it's very clear that there were a large number of stealth redundancies at Travers Smith, since the number of formally declared staff reductions was tiny.

  • Im not sure which is worse, pushing out around one in five staff in less than a year or then afterwards claiming not to be purely money-driven.
