Herbert Smith has been named as major projects adviser for Molson Coors as the brewing giant unveils a six-firm UK and Ireland legal panel.
The debut panel also includes DLA Piper, Nabarro, McGrigors and Squire Sanders Hammonds, with Beauchamps managing all legal issues in the Republic of Ireland.
Legal director and company secretary Sue Albion put together the panel with the principle that each firm will work in a bespoke area. DLA will lead on IP, commercial contracts, health, safety and environment issues and uninsured claims. Nabarro will advise on debt management and competition law, while McGrigors will handle property and tax issues UK-wide, while also covering Scottish and Northern Irish matters. Squire Sanders will handle employment and pensions matters.
Herbert Smith will not work on ’day-to-day’ issues, instead focusing on significant M&A, material litigation and competition matters.
Albion said: “Putting together a panel like this is a novel approach, but it’s reflective of the diversity of opinion that a large company like Molson Coors needs on a regular basis.
“Working with such an excellent panel is an exciting opportunity for me and my team and is part of my attempt to ensure that the legal services provided to Molson Coors effectively supports the priorities and ambition of the company, in particular the development of our portfolio of brands.”
In addition to the panel firms, the brewer will continue to use Yorkshire firm Gordons, a longstanding adviser, to manage loans it provides to licensees.
