Greenberg Traurig Maher (GTM) has hired DLA Piper partner Neil Upton to run its UK energy practice.
Upton, who was global head of energy at DLA Piper, has experience in the generation, distribution, transmission and energy retailing fields, as well as project finance expertise.
Chairman of Greenberg Traurig Maher’s London office Paul Maher said: “Neil’s a valuable addition to our energy practice. His impressive experience managing and developing his practice represents the kind of leadership that we’ve been actively recruiting in London. His broad knowledge of the energy industry positions GTM as a forerunner in the sector.”
Prior to joining DLA Piper in 2006, Upton led the energy and water team for Europe, Middle East and Africa at White & Case, where he had also previously run the London office.
Robert Gruendel, global chair of DLA Piper’s energy practice, said: “We wish Neil well in his future endeavours. Our energy practice is better positioned than ever to serve clients in the sector. We’ve built a global, multi-disciplinary practice that covers virtually every area of the business.
“Our lawyers are on the ground in every major energy-producing region, and we’re advising some of the world’s best known energy companies on their most critical projects and cases around the globe. Our goal is to build the world’s leading energy firm, and we’re well on our way to doing that.”
