Offshore firm Conyers Dill & Pearman is planning to open in the Channel Islands this summer, following the lead of offshore rival Appleby.
Appleby is set to open an office in Guernsey in the spring after hiring four partners from Ozannes (The Lawyer, 11 January) .
Conyers hopes to merge with or acquire a firm in Guernsey or Jersey, but is also considering building an office from scratch.
Conyers managing partner John Collis said: “We see potential for Channel Islands work in our other locations, such as Moscow, Dubai and Hong Kong. It’s not critical to our business objective that we launch in the Channel Islands through a merger, although given the sophistication of the two jurisdictions that’s the preferred route.”
In October 2009 Conyers tasked former Hong Kong partner Rosemarie Chen with researching the case for a Channel Islands launch.
