Clifford Chance is looking to rebuild its Italian practice after rehiring as a partner a Milan associate who left the firm in April.

Lucio Bonavitacola
Lucio Bonavitacola left the firm along with partners Paulo Calderaro, Michele Crisostomo and Silvio Riolo, who set up niche structured finance practice Riola Calderaro Crisostomo (29 June 2009).
Associate Giocchino Foti is also joining with Bonavitacola.
Clifford Chance Italy managing partner Charles Adams said: “The appointment of Lucio Bonavitacola to the partnership further strengthens our regulatory team.”
Clifford Chance’s Italian practice has suffered a number of key losses in recent months.
Earlier this year The Lawyer reported that high profile securitisation partner and former Italian co-head Luigi Chessa had also left the firm (27 July 2009).

People at CC Italy are very disappointed about the management of the firm in Italy and think that the managing partner of CC Italy and the managing partner of the corporate dept. are not suitable for these roles. This might be the reason why many people have left the firm in the last months (among them 9 partners out of 26).
