Coffin Mew names non-lawyer as first chief exec

Fareham-headquartered firm Coffin Mew has scrapped the managing partner position in favour of a chief executive role.

The firm has appointed Vincent Denham, the former chief executive of Bristol-based set St John’s Chambers, to take on the newly-created role.
Managing partner Nick Gross is to resume his position in the firm’s commercial practice while concentrating on his role as head of business services.
Gross told The Lawyer: “We’ve ridden the challenges of the economy quite well. Now it’s a question of opportunities. The time is spot on to appoint a chief executive.”
It is the first time the firm has appointed a non-lawyer to a management position.
Prior to joining St John’s Chambers, Denham was national business development director for Australian firm Piper Alderman. He also did stints as chief executive of St Philips Chambers in Birmingham and of Westminster law firm RadcliffesLeBrasseur.
