Special Report: Ukraine

Ukraine is not only undergoing some political turmoil at present, but its legislative landscape is also being shaken up. Top of the list of issues is the country’s tax code, which was introduced at the end of last year and is still creating work and uncertainty for lawyers. But as Dale McEwan reports this week, other sectors are also undergoing change.

Development in the agriculture industry is one area of note, while another is infrastructure on the back of the 2012 European football championships. Ukrainian lawyers say they are still hampered by lack of progress in the development of workable legislation in areas such as PPP.

Independent Ukrainian firms, however, see opportunities for the future, particularly with the loss of well-known brand Magisters following the firm’s merger with Russian giant Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners earlier this year.
